Tutorials/First night

So you've downloaded Junk Jack X. But where do you start? This tutorial covers gathering materials and getting through the first night safely.

Break the bottom of trees to chop them down. Wait for the leaves to disappear, because you get leaves and planks from them, which you will need later. Break the ground blocks to dig a hole, and make it in a good spot and big enough to use as a house. Block off the entrance. Make a Workbench in this way:

A Workbench is used for most non-mundane crafting, including a Simple Bed, crafted this way:

You may also want a Wood Chest, for keeping your items safe. This does not require a Workbench.

Getting torches

Look around. Do you see black blobs or chunks in the ground? That's Coal Ore. Go over there, digging tunnels if it's close, or going above ground (break the blocks blocking the entrance) and dig the coal. If you don't see any, dig staircases downward until you can find some. Then craft Torches like this:

Place torches in very dark areas to light them up, so monsters don't appear. Make sure the entrance is blocked off, and when the the outside gets really dark, tap the bed while near it to sleep to dawn. You've gotten past the first night!
