Healing Potions can be obtained by killing hostile mobs.
Craftable potions with varying effects were introduced in version 2.1.6.

To craft potions you'll need a Chemistry Lab, some Potion Bottles, and some Reagents.

The materials used in the potion determine what effect it will have. Many potions can be crafted using different materials, some materials will give a stronger effect than others. There are a total of 102 <-??? different effects, but the graphic icon of a potion will be one of 15 colors:
white, grey, black, brown, orange, red, rose, magenta, purple, blue, light blue, cyan, lime green, green, and yellow.

The quality of bottle you use effect the duration of the potion. This is shown in the finished potion by a small arrow on the upper left corner of the potion.

  • Minor Potion Indicator.png Red arrow means Minor Potion
  • No arrow mean Standard Potion
  • Major Potion Indicator.png Yellow arrow means Major Potion
  • Magnificent Potion Indicator.png Green arrow means Magnificent Potion

For most potions only the left two reagents are important, the third reagent can be anything. There is a chance that using a specific third reagent would boost the effect of the potion.
If you combine the wrong ingredients, there's a chance you'll create a nasty looking useless potion called a Useless Mixture.

Potions can be divided into four categories. Only one of each type can be active simultaneously. (Ex. drinking a potion of Blunt Skill while Pierce Skill is active will prevent you from consuming the potion, but drinking a potion of Falling Resistance is allowed.)

Offensive

These potions will boost the amount of damage you do to mobs

Defensive

These potions will boost your defense, or resistance against certain environmental hazards (such as lava).

Utility

These potions will grant useful benefits, such as invisibility, increased luck, or increased mining speed.

Special

These potions are more for show than anything else. They do things like dye your character strange colors, or make you half your normal size.
