Chickens are tamable farm animals.
They can be bred in a hen house and will eat grass, grass seeds, leaves, wheat, wheat seeds, corn seeds and animal food.
If a rooster, a hen and enough food are present in the stable, a chick will be born. Breeding chickens gives you a reliable egg source.
Rooster
The rooster is the male 
chicken. It can jump up to 1 block high, but can’t fly.
Capturing it with a taming collar will give you a pocket rooster.
Spawning
The rooster spawns on the surface during the day.
Once captured and put in a hen house, it won’t despawn as long as it stays in range of the stable.
Health
Health: 1 File:Heart 4-4 JJ1.png
Health resets each time the world is loaded.
Drops
When killed:
(100%) 2-3 Feather
(50%) 1 Chicken Meat
(10%) 1 Rooster Crest
Texture & size
The rooster has 2 texture: one for walking/resting and one for jumping. They are both 17x16 pixels.
Sounds
The rooster has 1 ambient sound: chicken_ambient and 1 death sounds: chicken_ambient2.
Hen
The hen, sometimes simply called chicken, is the female File:Female JJ1.png chicken. It can jump up to 1 block high, but can’t fly.
It randomly drops eggs.
Capturing it with a taming collar will give you a pocket hen.

The hen spawns on the surface during the day.
Once captured and put in a hen house, it won’t despawn as long as it stays in range of the stable.

Texture & size
The hen has 2 textures. Its walking/resting one is 11x12 pixels while its jumping one is 12x12 pixels.

The hen has 1 ambient sound: chicken_ambient and 1 death sounds: chicken_ambient2.
Chick
The chick is a baby chicken. It’s sex is undefined 
until it grows adult and becomes either a rooster or a hen. It can jump up to 1 block high, but can’t fly.
It can’t be captured with a taming collar.
Spawning
The chick will spawn in a hen house if a rooster, a hen and enough food are present.
It won’t despawn as long as it stays in range of the stable.
It doesn’t hatch from eggs.

The chick doesn’t drop anything when killed.

The chick has 2 texture: one for walking/resting and one for jumping. They are both 13x14 pixels.

History
- The Hen was added in v1.0.4 and was simply called Chicken.
- The Rooster and Chick were added in v1.2 as well as breeding. The Chicken is now named Hen.
